When you are creating content for the professional AV industry, it makes sense to start with what you know best. You have a great product, you know exactly what it does, and you want to tell the market about it. But when that message goes out and fails to generate a response, the question is usually the same: what does this audience actually care about?
The challenge for many brands is that they lose focus on exactly who is on the receiving end of their content. Integrators and end users care about fundamentally different things, and they are at entirely different stages of the buying cycle. When you try to talk to everyone at once, the message gets watered down.
Creating Content in Collaboration
The fastest way to understand what your audience values is to get in the room with them. That might mean walking the floor at a regional trade show, having direct conversations with your customers, or paying attention to the questions being asked on industry platforms.
The brands that build the most trust are the ones that participate in the community. When we host panels through rAVe [PUBS], we intentionally put manufacturers on stage alongside integrators and end users. We know that the audience does not want to hear a one-way sales pitch. They want to hear their peers discussing real struggles, and they want to hear how a manufacturer is partnering with them to solve those problems.
Timing and Context Matter
Knowing what your audience cares about is only half the equation. You also have to know when they care about it.
Take higher education as an example. We see brands pushing heavy product messaging in the middle of the summer, telling universities to buy. But anyone who knows that market understands that summer is not when schools are buying — summer is when they are frantically installing all the equipment they purchased during the previous budget cycle.
Pushing a sales message when the audience is covered in drywall dust is just noise.
When you understand your audience’s daily reality, you can align your messaging with the moments they are ready to listen.
From Vendor to Service Provider
When your messaging aligns with what the audience is paying attention to — and when they are paying attention — you transition from being a vendor to being an educational resource.
Imagine an integrator researching projection mapping for an upcoming project. If your brand has created content that helps them understand different materials, environmental factors, and integration challenges, you are doing more than selling a projector. You are providing a service. You are helping them do their job better.
Even if they are not ready to buy today, you have taught them something new. The next time they face a specific challenge, they are going to remember the brand that educated them. That is how you stay top of mind, and that is how you turn visibility into genuine trust.
