Meet the Team: Mandy Beckner
Mandy is President and COO at THE rAVe Agency.
How long have you been working in the audiovisual industry? 20 years. In September 2020, I was asked to turn dozens of PowerPoint presentations about the art, science, best practice, and business of AV into a curricula for AV professionals in the first 10 years of their career. I loved the subject matter, and I had world-class AV pros as my tutors. Somewhere along the way, I morphed from an education professional with an AV habit to an AV professional with a love for learning.
What is your favorite travel destination? Italy holds a special place in my heart. Whatever Italian city or town I am lucky enough to be in, that’s my favorite! I cannot wait to take my kids there.
D.I.Y. or D.I.Don’t? I really want to be good at textile arts, but I only have a collection of failed attempts. My best DIY projects of 2020 are the acoustic treatments needed to turn my dining room into a “school at home” space for my kids. (Note to self: If my children grow up to be acousticians or sound modeling software engineers, remind them of how they rolled their eyes when I explained what Sabin is in elementary school).
What is one thing people might not know about you? My kids, wanting to be involved in writing this, suggested: I can say the alphabet backward, and I call Pittsburgh home even though I haven’t lived there since 1996. I find my kids endlessly fascinating. It’s fun to introduce them to new experiences or ideas and just sit back and see what they do and say. I collect their one-liners like seashells.
What is your favorite part about working at THE rAVe Agency? You know those obstacle course TV shows where people navigate a range of challenges with precision, boundless energy and a positive world view? That’s what this team is like. They are exciting and impressive! They rebound from setbacks, integrate new ideas, and evolve approaches with an organizational muscle memory. The rAVe team makes our work so, much. fun.
